Description
NCPPC annotated its 1928 annual report (see link) with tables, maps, and images.
Honoring its new responsibility as the region’s planning agency, a “Studies in Continuity of Planning” section illustrated Washington’s planning legacy (see link). A “Land and its Uses in D.C.” section reported on population, housing, and land use (see link). In “Charts and Plates,” NCPPC provided dozens of full-page transportation, “points of interest,” and open space monographs.
The supplement also introduced NCPPC’s “Neighborhood Recreation Centers” plan, which was one component of NCPPC’s planned Park System for the District of Columbia (see 1928 Park System-DC). As introduced by Frederick L. Olmsted, these centers would be distinguished by an accessible location, multiple recreational facilities, and “landscape beauty.” The plan followed earlier reports linking juvenile delinquency to a lack of playgrounds.
